Churro Station grew out of the brainstorm of Melanie Farkas, who brought her friend Zoila Aldana into the business to help make sure it's done right. Farkas tasted her first Churro on a trip to Mexico, and thought the art of making Churros was delightful to watch. She sampled a lot of Churros around Latin America and Spain trying to find the best mixture of fluffy dough and seasonings.

They opened their first restaurant in 2003, after much testing of recipes. Aldana remains in charge of developing recipes and cooking techniques, and is the go-to woman for distribution questions and store operations, while Farkas presides over the financial side of the company, and handling marketing and franchise opportunities.

Churro Station franchise restaurants are easy to set up, with a limited capital investment needed to get started, and each one has opportunities to diversify the menu to fit their local demographic needs. Churro Station also wholesales Churros to schools, markets, movie theaters and other restaurants, which means that the franchise is not dependant solely on foot traffic. The company provides extensive training on both wholesaling and retailing their products, as well as "time in the kitchen" learning to make all the products to a tee.

To get involved, you'll need to front up the Franchise fee, which ranges from $10,000 for a small shop to $39,500 for a "mall anchor store" variety. You will also need to have at least $100,000 in liquid capital. Churro Station Inc. does not provide financing, but will be happy to direct you to third party financing if desired. Total capital outlay can be as low as $80,000 or as high as $200,000, depending on location. Churro Station has a royalty of 8%, and a marketing fund that will not exceed 4% of the store's gross revenues to help with marketing the brand cross country as part of its expansion.

Because the franchise is so new, Farkas is willing to be somewhat flexible in helping future franchise partners set up their business, but the entire operation is build on a solid, proven business methodology involving fresh ingredients, and proprietary recipes. If you're interested in serving the 400 billion dollar Latino foods market, and have the desire and work ethic to run a hands-on business operation as an owner-operator, Churro Station may be the right investment opportunity for you.
