Starbuck continue to open more stores annually then their closest competitor currently even Caribou Coffee runs and operates. This growth is not limited to just the United States but you can find their tasty drinks all over the world.

Starbucks continues to strive to achieve excellence by strict controls of the operations. They even work closes with the coffee plantations and pay higher per pound to ensure the right conditions are met. A lot of their coffee is deemed fair trade by paying an actually living wage to these farmers. They are also getting a little into the organic trade where farmers are committed to not using any harmful chemicals.

Many people have criticized Starbucks for putting a lot of small coffee houses out of business. This is true in many cases. However Starbucks does state today there are more successful independent and coffee franchises then anytime in history. They feel their marketing efforts exposed many to the gourmet coffee industry and their marketing indirectly help their small competitors to survive.

While Starbucks does allow for licensing of their products by some large companies such as grocery stores, department store, and colleges, they do not offer any franchising opportunities at the present time.
