In 1979, Aaron Spencer was able to gain the confidence of Ike Sewell, and became Chairman of Uno Restaurant Corporation.  The first Uno’s opened by Aaron was on Boylston Street in Boston.  Since that time the company has been able to expand into thirty different states, D.C., and internationally as well.

Today the company is based out of Boston.  The company owns a total of 125 restaurants, while being a franchisor for another 85 restaurants.  Uno’s has established itself as a unique restaurant option, with a full service casual dining experience.  The distinctive deep dish pizza is a classic taste that is unmatched by any other restaurant.  As the business has grown, so has the menu available at Uno’s across the nation.

The company has a definite focus on developing new dishes for its menu.  This focus led to the creation of the Deep Dish Sundae, a desert that has gotten rave reviews since its introduction at Uno’s restaurants.  This food first mentality is one large part of what has put the company in a position to continue to grow in the future.  The mentality isn’t just about new products either, as many of the old favorites have undergone facelifts in their lifetime on the Uno menu.

Uno Chicago Grill is serious about making sure that the franchises become a part of the success of the company as a whole.  The company assists with hiring, training, and in turn keeping the best staff available.  Each Uno’s restaurant will have a General Manager, an Assistant General Manager, and two Managers.  These managers are responsible for guest relations, cost control, sales building, employee supervision, and training/development.

With an Uno’s franchise, there comes a marketing co-op.  This includes seasonal marketing programs, drink and desert merchandising pieces, in store point of purchase materials, newspaper ads and inserts to use in local advertising, art department support for the restaurant, menus, and research studies.  This marketing assistance gives the franchises a jump start on moving in the right direction.

With such a history of success, the company has a proven model for introducing new franchises in a manner that allows for the best likelihood for success.  This method includes relying on the experienced support team, focusing on products, making the environment in the restaurants friendly, and marketing with an emphasis both on the corporate level as well as the local level.
